FAQs

Who can use the pager network?

As of 1 July 2017, the Spark Paging service is no longer a public service.

It is a service run on behalf of the NZ Fire Service and for an agreed group of high volume customers with new contracted supply agreements directly with Spark primarily for New Zealand Emergency Services and Health Organisations

Therefore if you do not have a new supply agreement, you cannot use the paging service.

What format do I need to make my pager numbers?

The pager number format is determined by the API you are using. (specified in the API documentation), or the application instructions.

That is… International Format, with + prefix. (eg: +6426xxxxxxx)

What if I have 6 digit pager numbers?

You still need to send it in international format, so it will arrive as a 10 or 11 digit number (eg +64261234567). If it comes through as 11 digits… we strip the first 4 digits and the last check digit and process the 6 digit pager number ‘123456’.

If it comes through as 10 digits, (eg +6426123456), we strip the first 4 digits and process the 6 digit pager number ‘123456’

What if I have old Buzzme, Airnote or MiniCall pagers?

Allowance has not been made for these pagers. Please contact your Spark account manager if you have this requirement.

How many characters are in my pager message?

A standard 1 UNIT, Pager message is 240 characters long. (See Character Limits for more information)

Why Modica?

Modica have partnered with Spark to expose a public interface for a combined SMS and Paging gateway.

The reason for this alliance is so that we can migrate customers from the old pager network to a standard interface where customers can send out to either message transportation mechanism (SMS or Pager).
